Youth Service Award
What is the program about?
The Youth Service Award recognizes the achievements of outstanding 8th-graders leading exemplary lives. The program is not intended to recognize scholastic or athletic achievements. Rather, this program is designed to recognize youth for service that make them leaders among their peers and a source of inspiration to others.
How does the program work?
The
Serra Club Service Award is presented to one or more 8th-graders in a
parish to recognize the outstanding service he or she gives to church,
school and community. The recipient(s) are chosen by the parish or
school. Members of the Serra Club are available to
present the award(s) at Mass in May or June.
Parishes
select up to two (2) 8th-grader students from the parish school (if applicable) and up to two (2) 8th-grade students from
the parish religious education program. If, in the opinion of the parish staff, fewer than two (2) students from either program meet the criteria then only those students should be honored.
After the students have been selected their names are submitted to the Serra Club of Evansville using the contact form. Certificates are presented to the students noting their accomplishment.
What are the criteria for selecting recipients?
8th-graders are asked to fill complete an application form. Parish and school administrators should select recipients based upon the applications submitted.
What is the deadline for submissions?
Only the completed application forms of those to be honored should be submitted by
Monday, April 12, 2010. Include a completed contact form as well and mail the forms to:
