8th-grade students recognized for Vocation Awareness Program
44 students from 21 parishes honored at annual banquet

Eighth grade students from parish religious education programs and schools were
selected by teachers for their outstanding work on projects focused on
vocations within the Church. The other
participants were awarded certificates at their home parish.
The Serra Club conducts the program each year to
encourage the students to give serious consideration to their own vocation.
A variety of projects were projects
were undertaken by the students, including essays, written reports, posters and Power
Point presentation, creating coloring books, scrapbooks and poems.
One student created an essay in the form of a game
show with the final round asked the question, “What do you want to be when you
grow up?” He addressed each type of
vocation and what was involved in each. The game concluded with the constant
being asked to phone a friend – that friend being the Holy Spirit.
Father Bernie Etienne, who recently
completed almost 15 years as director of the Diocesan Vocation Director, was
the speaker.
